Two pet brushes can look alike online. But what they’re made of can make a big difference to grooming time, comfort and how soon you’re shopping for another.
Here’s the scoop, minus the chemistry homework.
TPR stands for thermoplastic rubber, part of the broader family of thermoplastic elastomers. Think rubbery flexibility with plastic-style manufacturing: it can be heated, shaped and cooled efficiently.
That makes it a popular, economical choice for pet products. But “rubbery” doesn’t tell you much about the quality, texture or durability of the finished brush.
Your cat doesn’t shop by thumbnail.
TPR can be formulated to feel smooth, firm, stretchy or noticeably tacky. Two brushes that look almost identical can feel very different against a coat.
And “soft” alone isn’t enough. Bristle shape, flexibility and surface texture all matter. You want to collect loose fur while keeping grooming comfortable.
That’s why the original Bailey Brush combines 100% pure, food-grade silicone with flexible, rounded bristles. The material and design work together to make grooming feel more like a massage.
Copying the outline doesn’t copy the experience.
Some TPR formulations can develop sticky or oily surfaces as ingredients migrate through the material. These problems aren’t inevitable, but they’re a reminder that formulation quality matters just as much as the finished shape.
A product listing that simply says “rubber” or “TPR” doesn’t tell you its exact formulation, how it was processed or how it will hold up.
With Bailey Brush, we’re clear about what you’re getting: solid food-grade silicone throughout. No hard plastic core. No outer coating hiding a different material underneath.
What touches your pet is the same material all the way through.

We’ve handled inexpensive imitation brushes that have split and deteriorated during use. In our experience, a properly cared-for Bailey Brush can last for years.
Not every TPR brush will fall apart. But a similar appearance doesn’t promise similar performance, either.
The cheapest brush at checkout isn’t necessarily the cheapest brush to own. Replacing a bargain again and again has a cost, too, for you and the environment.
Silicone products can cost more to manufacture because of the material, mould requirements and curing process. Thermoplastic materials often allow faster, more economical production.
We choose our silicone for the brush we want to make: flexible, comfortable and built for repeated grooming.
We’d rather you spend more time brushing your cat and less time replacing their brush.
Choose the real, original Bailey Brush from baileybrush.com or an authorised retailer.
Thoughtful design. Solid food-grade silicone. Plenty of quality time with your favourite little fur factory.
